Restoring Files Directly from the Backup Vault

AI Tools

This procedure explains how users can restore archived OneDrive files directly from the CrashPlan portal using the My Backup Vault restore workflow.

Restoring a Stubbed OneDrive File

  1. Navigate to: CrashPlan Portal → My Backup Vault → OneDrive
  2. Locate the required stubbed OneDrive item.
  3. Right-click the item and select Restore.
  4. Verify that the Restore Settings modal opens.

Configuring Restore Options

Within the Restore Options section, review the Remove links from source toggle.

The Remove links from source option is enabled by default.

When restore is initiated with this option enabled:

  • The stubbed URL item is removed from OneDrive
  • The original file is restored in place
  • The original file format is restored
  • The original file size is restored

This returns the item to its normal OneDrive state.

If the Remove links from source option is disabled before initiating restore:

  • The original file is restored to the selected destination path
  • The stubbed URL reference remains available in OneDrive

This allows users to temporarily preserve both:

  • The restored original file
  • The archived URL stub reference

You can later remove the stubbed reference manually (if required).

To complete the Restore operation:

  1. Review the selected restore settings.
  2. Click Restore to begin the restore operation.
  3. Verify that the restore completes successfully and the file is available based on the selected restore option.
